Just installed Mede8er firmware on my AC Ryan Playon!HD…works so much faster than the Gui 2.0 Beta from AC Ryan…

Where did you find the modded Mede8er Firmware for the Ac Ryan.
I have a PlayonHD Mini and i want to change the crappy Gui2 beta FW to a newer one than the old stable AcRyan FW.
    please email me,
    thanx

    • Lucien says:

Hi Testicle (now this sounds weird…LOL) –

fast and responsive! It’s definitely not as pretty as the new GUI from AC Ryan but at least it not riddled with bugs.

Be sure to use the safe flashing method if you attempt this:
•Copy install.img to the root directory of a USB flash drive and connect it to any USB host port of the Playon!HD.
•Switch off the main power to the unit.
•Press and hold on to the power button on the front panel of the unit.
      •Switch on the main power.
•Release the power button when the firmware update starts flashing on your display in a moment and will automatically reboot when update is completed.
**Do not power off the unit during the flashing process!**

Note: You can’t go from v7.4.x on the playon to this mede8er firmware, v7.4.x has a different bootloader. If your playon is on v7.4.x then downgrade to v7.3.x (http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=10197) before installing the mede8er firmware.

AFAIK this will void your warranty so do it at your own risk. Most problems can be fixed by flashing back to the playon firmware anyway. I’m just using this until AC Ryan releases a fixed version of their firmware with the new GUI.

      Ok, I’ve found the thread : http://www.avforums.com/forums/strea…l#post14400000

Only for the origianl Playon! HD and Playon! HD mini – NOT for the newer version 2 players.

Ok I just wanted to update the firmware post as there are 2 versions of the latest unlocked firmware for PlayOnHD V1 based on the following info from Mede8er, so both firmwares are available as either HDMI or SPDIF, read further to decide which applies to you.

      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

      Reason for two versions

The reason for 2 firmware versions is that the new SDK that we are using has restrictions as foll

      1) DD Hardware all will work as it should and you will get 5.1 passthrough on SPDIF from normal 5.1 and HD Audio source material
      2) DD+ Hardware will work as it should on HDMI but on SPDIF it will passthrough Core 5.1 from Core 5.1 source fine– but it will not pass Core 5.1 from HD Audio 5.1 or 7.1 source material

So users who use SPDIF cannot get the benefit of HD Audio (as we know you cannot get HD Audio on SPDIF) and they should use the “NO_HD_AUDIO” version and then they will get normal Dolby 5.1 and DTS from 5.1 source BUT they will also get Core 5.1 Dolby and DTS from HD Audio 5.1 and 7.1 source. If on the other hand they use the version “INC_HD_AUDIO” they will only get 2 ch stereo from HD Audio source.

      Summery

      DD Hardware = Use either
DD+ Hardware – SPDIF used for audio = use “no HD Audio version”
DD+ Harware – HDMI 1.3 AMP used for audio = use “Inc HD Audio version”
DD+ Hardware – HDMI to TV used for audio = Use either

      HD Audio http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3650644/Mede…Ryan%20HDMI.7z

      NO HD Audio http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3650644/Med%…yan%20SPDIF.7z
Just installed it on my Playon and it’s working perfectly (no hd audio version) – super fast and responsive!

      Enjoy

  5. wudelbrumpf says:

Can you please put valid links to the FW here? Or is it possible to give me the correct links?

  6. Wiep says:

    Hi Lucien,

Tried to install the firmware several times but PLAYON says: “install error” “no space for yaffs2 image” any idea how to solve this.

    Thanks in advance.

        Lucien

      • Giove says:

        Hi Lucien,
Thanks for your answer, but my playonhd doesn’t accept this firmware, what can I try to succeed?

      • Lucien says:

        Hi Giove,

I assume that your playon!hd is the very first one that was released by AC Ryan, which is the exact same as the Mede8er 500x. If this is the case, I trust you followed the update procedure that mede8er recommends…power off deivce, power on and hold the power button for a few seconds?

If you the above is correct, then it should work without a glitch.

      • Lucien says:

YOur Playon must also have the latest ac ryan firmware….I was on the Gui.20 beta when I updated mine.

  8. AMRAAM says:

  18. Edinger says:

    Hello,

I’ve been reading your thread and wondering if you have V4 r5249 or Playon!HD MED500X_V4_INC_HD_AUDIO_25Jan2011

I tried V4.04 r5319 and it consistently hangs after powering on and playing the
    first video.

I have the Patriot Box Office as well and it hangs the same way as playonhd hd1.
I was able to find r5249 for PBO and it seems to not have the poweron first video
    play hang.

I need Mede8er firmware for ACR-PV73100 Playon!HD because ACRyan’s last firmware is full of bugs. I’m so disappointed of this product and the support of ACRyan stuff. Please send me the right Mede8er firmware for ACR-PV73100 Playon!HD. My email: individix@yahoo.com

    Thank you Lucien.

    Kind regards,

  20. INDiViDiX says:

Which one is for ACR-PV73100 Playon!HD???

    • Lucien says:

These are only for the 73100. I had installed the gui 2.0 beta, and due to slow network performance, and sluggish in general, I immediately upgraded using the mede8er f/w. Still running to date (it is the latest me8er f/w available todate).

  21. INDiViDiX says:

    Doesn’t WORK!!!
Are you sure about what to do? It says that This Mede8er firmware will not work on this hardware…

So, tell me what you suggest…

Is this a joke or what?

  22. INDiViDiX says:

Look, my mediaplayer is ACR-PV73100 Playon!HD. It isn’t MINI one. I’m not upgrading from GUI2.0, i’m upgrading from Firmware v7.3.3.r4824 – European Edition v7.3.4.r4824. So tell me where’s the problem? Can you please give me the exact Mede8er firmware for my mediaplayer that will work on it or you are just guessing? Remember, my mediaplayer isn’t MINI one. Waiting your reply please.

  23. INDiViDiX says:

    DONE!!! 🙂 Working JUST AMAZING!!!

Thank you mate!!! You’re number ONE!!!

Thank you!!! This is the real firmware for this media player!!! Is FAST as HELL!!! Good JOB!!! Thank you!!!

  24. Ebrahim says:

@Lucien: Plz can you post a direct link to the med8er NoHD firmware… The links on your blog are not working. Thanks

  25. Mijnie says:

    I’m Not getting it…
I’ve tried it by installing an earlyer firmware from Acryan.
Still the warning that this firmware is not for this hardware.
    Send your firmware please!

  26. Manus says:

    Thanks Lucien,
All is working fine now that did not worked well with then latest ACRyan firmware. NAS works again and is stable, Wireless is working again… Man.. you made me happy with this suggestion!!
I have installed the “Med V4.0.4 r5315 for AC Ryan SPDIF Med V4.0.4 r5315 for AC Ryan SPDIF 0” version from your blog. This version is made in March this year. Is the latest version to install or do I need to search for a newer / later version at Mede8er site? Please let me know or let us know where we can find. Man… Thanks again for you super suggestions !!
    Best regards,
    Manus

    • Lucien says:

      Hi Manus,

Glad to hear all is good.
Now for the bad news…seems the Mede8er is not doing any further development re updates for the their 500x Models (which is the same firmware that we are using on our AC RYAN models). I will keep an eye out and post any updates. They are doing quite a bit for their newer models (500×2, which is brilliant – 3TB HDD support, wireless keyboard, awesome GUI, etc.).

  27. Toplevel says:

meder8er just release a new firmware for 400x-500x

    http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,7307.0.html

anyone has the mod version for ac ryan box?

    • Lucien says:

Keel…will look into this and also find out if someone has already modified the mede8er firmware for the Playon…if anyone gets hold of the firmware please let me know as well.

    • Lucien says:

Just had a look at the link you provided….seems to be quite a mission. Not as straightforward as installation I have (which is the same for both the mede8er and AC Ryan). Think I will wait a little while before I attempt anything…my mate (who has a 500x) will give this a bash, and I will take it form there.

If there any guys who do attempt the upgrade…please drop us a mail.

  28. ermak says:

    1st you need this:
    0202.1026L + Iconbit HDS6L v7.3.41 r4673 – 01.12.2010
    http://www.mediafire.com/?j8q7equz5x095y7

This change bootloader and loading picture to Iconbit.

After this you can install Mede8er 4.0.5:

    Mede8er 4.0.5 HD Audio (@dzver fix) – for Iconbit HDS6L
    http://www.mediafire.com/?1d6rimofyn6yjuu

    Mede8er 4.0.5 NO HD Audio (@dzver fix) – for Iconbit HDS6L
    http://www.mediafire.com/?a9kdoiyxoik3v2o

I test this on AC Ryan player and work fine.

  29. Jos says:

    Hey Lucien,

I have a acryanhd 7300 and I use the mede8ter firmware. It’s all good but I have one little problem. I cannot seem to choose a Genre-icon for my folders in the Videowall. I have folder in the root of the HDD named Videowall. After I selected the folders for the Videowall I want to choose a picture for the specific folder, like Action, Drama, Comedy etc. I go to the Videowall and choose Action, then I press the Menu button and then I see the little icon where I can choose pictures for the folders. But when I choose this I get an empty little screen, so no genre icons..

Do I miss something? Don’t know what I do wrong..

    Hope you have the answer,

    Thanks in advance!
    Jos

    • Lucien says:

      Hey Jos,

Everything you have done so far is correct. Can you confirm the size of your icons.

Should not be bigger than 159 x 229

      • Jos says:

The sizes are 156X233. I guess they’re too big right?
Kinda strange because I did not resize the icons to a bigger size.

I solved the problem in a pretty strange way (if you ask me)…
I renamed the folder Videowall to Videowal (a L less)
I admit that English is not my native language but Videowall is definitely with a double ‘l’ right? haha!

Anyway, this way I can choose some standard icons but not all of them..

      • Lucien says:

Interesting….mine is labelled video wall….and I am using my own customized icons. The size you mentioned is fine. The mede8er icons are rather dull. I have also published pics (not the best quality) of what mine look like. Check it out on my blog….(https://lucienjuly.wordpress.com/media-players-devices)

        Kind Regards,

        Lucien July 079 887 0487

  30. toplevel says:

I notice the mod M8 4.0.5 f/w for HD posted above is only 42700KB while the original size is 56472KB, does anyone tested if it can support HD audio, there are some mod version which does not support HD audio. i.e. DTS-HD and Tru DD.

  31. Jos says:

    Hey Lucien,

Can you tell me what folder mede8er uses where I choose the icons for the Genres?

My folder structure of Videowall is like this:

    Videowall
    – Diamond
    – Empty Cases
    – Genre
    – GlynRS2 icons
    – GlynRS2 icons 2
    – Mede8er Case
    – Mede8er Clear Case
    – Mede8er icons
    – Photoshop templates

Whatever I try and whatever I change, I still get the same dull meddler genre icons…

What can I do to use your Videowall icons? How do I set up the folder structure on the internal HDD of the ACRyan?

Maybe this is a really dumb question but I can’t managed to sort this out…

And ehm… Thanks for the cool Genre icons!

    Jos

    • Lucien says:

      Hi Jos,

Your icons/images must be in the root of the videowall – not in folders….

      • Jos says:

        Hi Lucien,

        They are.. \HDD\videowall

I read a video wall guide just now and i read about this:
        20) Press the “Menu” button for options
        21) You now have the option to Remove, Lock or apply Genre Cover art to the Shortcut.

        I don’t have the Lock option….
Maybe that’s why mede8er shows the same icons again and again and again?

        regards,
        Jos

      • Lucien says:

The lock option is to be able to lock your movie folders – if this is not setup (settings), then it will not be available on the menu button.

  32. Jos says:

    Thanks, I see that now…

    But how come this:
I have a folder in the root of the HDD called videowall with your icons in this folder.
Then I go to the Videowall, I select for instance Actionmovies, I press the Menu button, the I press the folder icon for the genre icons and then all I see are the GlynRS2 icons? How can I find your icons?

It seems like the path to the genre icons is locked or something..

Geezzz… I feel so stupid not seeing this problem….

Hope you can help me out with this…

    Jos

    • Lucien says:

      Hhhmmm…interesting….

Let me understand – you select a movie folder (action) Add this to the videowall (add all folders to the videowall that you want to use) Then you go the videowall, press menu, and select the action icon?

      Is this correct?

      • Jos says:

        Yes with a little add:

Then I go to the videowall, press menu and I see the little screen with the trashcan and then i press the icon below the trashcan. Then I see all the different genre icons but unfortunately not your icons but the GlynRS2 icons.

      • Lucien says:

Now that is weird….will check and see if there is a different way of setting up your videowall.

Try deleting all icons you have in your videowall folder, and maybe even restart the player after you have added only the icons in the videowall folder

  33. Jos says:

I already did this. I only have your icons in the videowall folder.
It seems like the player saves the settings somewhere in a file?

Is resetting the player and reinstall the firmware an option?

    • Lucien says:

      Not at all….

I only restarted my player after I copied the icons to the videowall folder.] Are you able to send me a screendump of your root as well as the icons in the video wall?

Should also be able to access the player via web (if yours is on the network)?

BTW, are the movies on the local drive, USB or network drive?

  34. Jos says:

I will try to make some screen dumps.

By the way… thank you for all your help! It’s amazing.. thanks

  35. Jos says:

My movies are on the local HDD of the ASRyan

  36. Jos says:

    I sent u a mail through dropbox

  37. Jos says:

Okay, thanks. Hear from you later..

Can this all also have to do with the Yadis program I use?

  38. gerard says:

  39. Jos says:

    Hey Lucien,

I finally solved the problem with those genre icons…
Today I copied your icons to a folder called Videowall on a small SD-card. And now it all works!
I can finally choose your icons!

Thanks for your efforts and patience with this dumb user :-/

    Have a great weekend!

The size is smaller beacuse the original font (which is 22 MB!!! and nobody knows why this big) is replaced with normal windows arial which is around 400 KB. HD audio support depends on the chip revision – DD does not support hd audio, DD+ supports hd audio.

      Question

I have a PlayonHD with the 1073DD C+. I tried both firmware versions and neither flashed. After holding the power button to safe flash it showed a “Mede8er doesn’t support this hardare” type of message. Since im on the original PlayonHD, not the HD 2, im assuming the DD+ is not the same as a DD C+? And there’s no Mede8er firmware unlocked for me?

Im assuming I cant just just use Mede8er 500x or 500×2 firmware unless someone unlocks it somehow?

THANK you for helping us and providing ongoing support. Many thanks for your response. And let me know how I can help you, click on adverts somewhere or something.

    • Toplevel says:

Thanks Dzver, btw, I have the Playon v1 C+ unit and now i suspect the font file size could be due to east asia language support. 🙂

  41. Momo says:

and yes…I used the firmwares from your blogroll. You have two version and two links to each version. I tried 3 out of the 4 of your install.img’s.

    • Lucien says:

I also have the original playon (not HD 2). I updated mine to the mede8er firmware from the playon Gui 2.0 Beta (I see there is new firmware for our models available, but have not bothered since I have the mede8er firmware). The 2 versions is HD and no HD…. I installed the HD version….and it has been working since.

  42. Rafal says:

Hi Can I install this firmware on playon!HD mini?
    Regards Rafal

  43. Just wanted to say after dealing with the slowness and freezes on my POHD with the latest firmware I went ahead and installed the Mede8er firmware and what a difference it made!!!

Its way faster, cleaner interface and I love the video wall…just wish there were going to be more new improved firmware as the last one for the 500x released on Nov 30 2011.

    • Lucien says:

I could not agree more Ralph. Seems that we will have to go without YouTube and the other functionality that is available with the AC Ryan firmware (or the new mede8er 500×2) has to offer though.

  44. Loek says:

Okay, I feel really clumsy to be the next one asking, but when I click the links for the firmware on your blogroll I just get a dropbox error that the page can’t be found.
I suppose I’m doing something wrong, but can’t find out what.

And if I understand this topic correctly the firmware is suitable for the Playon mini as well?

    • Lucien says:

      Hi Loek,

I will check and revert re the links (apologies for the tardy reply).
No, this f/w is only for the full HD 1 (not 2)

      • Loek says:

No problem for the late reply.
If its only for the full HD it isn’t suitable for me.

Wanted to try the mede8tor because subtitle isn’t working when connecting wireless…guess I just have to use USB. Thanks anyways

  45. Axel says:

    Hi Lucien,

I have yet to post the latest firmware version (the final for the mede8er). A previous post also has links to the new firmware…will advise and remove the old links as soon as I can…

I followed ermak’s step and installed both. It works. But bootloader logo was changed to ICONBIT and the firmware doesn’t support Asian font or unicode fonts. Like chinese/japanese/korean
Seems to not be supporting SAMBA or display network drive from my default workgroup, WORKGROUP. Can’t access \\device name/ip

    0202.1026L + Iconbit HDS6L v7.3.41 r4673 – 01.12.2010
    Mede8er 4.0.5 HD Audio (@dzver fix) – for Iconbit HDS6L

Is there a fix to it?

    Is dat er te vinden…??

Hi like to ask you how to flash back AC Rayon original firmware?thanks for your help.

  63. Mark Breugelmans says:

    Hey,

I have an AC Ryan Playon HD (PV73100). I changed the firmware to the one you made, to make it look like a Mede8er. It is running just fine, but I have often blank screens, and the system hangs for a while, and start rebooting.

I like to go back to the original firmware of AC Ryan, but this seems to be not possible. I get a message telling me the firmware I’m trying to flash only works on a AC Ryan PlayonHD. Seems like the bootloader is changed, so I can’t go back to the original.

Can you help me with this, to change my firmware back to AC Ryan?

    Thanx for your help.

    grts

    Mark

I have been running this mediator firmware for quite some time now but I am having issues with the unit freezing right after starting a video if I let the thing time out and reboot itself then sometimes the same video will then play fine, sometimes it needs 3 or 4 reboots. It’s driving me nuts can anyone please tell me how to downgrade the firmware back to Original AC Ryan because both of the usual methods keep telling me the firmware is not compatible with this hardware, and yes I am using the right version. I have the iconbit loader installed
